What Age Is Suitable for Orthodontic Treatment?
In reality, orthodontic treatment has no strict age limit. People aged 5 to 50—and even over 50—can still get braces. However, to achieve the best treatment outcomes, the most important factor is timing.
-
Ages 5–11: This is the “golden period” for early screening and intervention of dental issues. Orthodontic treatment is most effective at this stage, as it can guide both tooth alignment and jaw development (according to the American Dental Association – ADA).
-
Ages 12 and up: Permanent teeth have fully erupted. Orthodontic treatment helps align the teeth and improve the bite; however, skeletal discrepancies are more difficult to correct as comprehensively as in earlier stages.
-
Adults: Orthodontic treatment is possible at any age as long as the teeth and gums are healthy. However, because the jawbones have fully developed, treatment duration is often longer than in children.
