At around 6 years old, children prepare to lose their first tooth, and primary (baby) teeth will gradually be replaced by permanent teeth. The tooth replacement sequence typically begins with the eruption of the first molar (tooth number 6) and ends with the eruption of tooth number 7 around the age of 12.
During this stage, parents should closely monitor their child’s tooth replacement process and schedule regular dental check-ups. This helps detect common abnormalities early, such as missing tooth buds, extra teeth in the midline gap, or impacted teeth (mesiodens), which can obstruct tooth eruption and affect the positioning of the remaining teeth.
